Easy on the chest-thumping, says Premachandran

Dileep Premachandran is probably my favourite cricket writer. Of late, he has been writing for the Guardian and in this article, cautions against all the chest-thumping. There's also a snipe at ToI, which I just loved.

i enjoyed the article but i think dileep errs in comparing this team with the 2003 world cup team which had already peaked. i would rather compare it with kapil's devils whose world cup victory led to a golden period of limited overs cricket for india which continued through the benson & hedges cup in australia, and ended with miandad's six off chetan sharma... as for the patriotic fervour, yes it makes me uneasy too, but then we haven't had a success like this in all the 20 years that tendulkar has hogged the headlines. so i don't blame the fans.

I don't see why we should compare it to any team. Just let them chart their own course, and we can make our judgments after the tour of Australia. Can't wait for that one.:)
And it wasn't really a golden period for the Devils. I think we got whitewashed at home by the Windies soon after.

I really did enjoy that one. MP, a friend at 606, brought that up in discussion...the responses of some frumers to a particula newspaper's mention were hilarious.

I for one had cancelled my subscription about six-seven years ago...about the time it slipped down into its tabloid avatara. Still get it at workplace though...

Comparison, I disagree too. But like Sumit said, India had something of substance to cheer about after a very long time.
