Raise the Titan

It seems that the best way to get Sachin Tendulkar to perform is to taunt him by throwing some obscure stats at him. In a way, his , hopefully not, last tour of Australia has been his two fingered salute to his critics.
"He doesn't score against the big nations any more - 493 runs at an average of 70.
"Adelaide is his worst ground." - a majestic 153
"He doesnt score any runs chasing" - Two match winning scores in the most important games India played in the tournament.
"He is a failure in finals" - 117*(120) balls.
So, guys, criticize him, taunt him so that he breaks more barriers, creates more records and sets the stage ablaze.
Let us "Raise the Titan" again.

PS: - I seriously think I ought to do a lengthier article on Mr Tendulkar. But, that can wait as I wait for Tuesday.

as there is chapter in hindu mythology about hanumaan's curse that he will realize his real potential only when someone will remind him...

SRT too needs doses of this...thanks manjerekar...

disclaimer: mention of hanuman is in no way connected to racial slur here... ;-))

He performed this time - he played a marvellous inning, but that is not reason enough to mock the criticisms. I wish I had more time to quote some stats, but there is no doubt that Mr. Tendulkar (and make no mistake, I am a huge fan) is a failure when it comes to finals, especially finals in which we are chasing. In a career spanning 400 matches and cricinfo only knows how many finals, I cant remember more than a handful of matches (am thinking 7-8) in which he has contributed substantially to India winning a final. The criticism stands - but Sajith, I would love to hear some state to disprove that (especially over the last five years or so)

I guess Mr Tendulkar has answered you TM.

The critics are right. They are simply showing you the numbers. These 2 performances from SRT does not significantly change any of the numbers

My only criticism against the critics is that they do not care to dig into the numbers from the support cast in the matches where Sachin has been less successful

Sajith,

Like I said, over a career of 400 matches, Mr. Tendulkar has not answered often enough. But superlative today! However, its too late for him to amend that career criticism unless he goes down in a blaze of glory every match where we chase, especially a final.

I don't have any gripe with the stas thrown. I agree that Sachin hasn't been the greatest chaser in the last few years. But, in a way i would say it is because of the appalling injuries he has sufferred over the last few years. In fact, i think the year 2007-2008 is probably his first injury free year since 1998, his annus mirablis. Overall when you take in Tendulkar's stats over his career, his figures in finals and in chases is exceptional.
Makes you wonder what a fully fit Tendulkar could have done in th years of his decline.
Hopefully, he could address some of the obvious fallacies in the stats before he calls it quits.
